Ten years iotspot. Ten years insights into the Smart Workplace

In 2016 iotspot started in 's-Hertogenbosch with one conviction: people should be able to decide when, where and with whom they work. The first product did exactly one thing. It let you book a desk. Ten years later iotspot runs across a global portfolio for Johnson & Johnson, Vodafone, Hugo Boss, Puma and Porsche, for governmental and semi-governmental organisations. In those ten years iotspot grew from a desk booking system into a Smart Workplace intelligence platform: insights into every square metre of the office building, and we support the collaboration that hybrid working depends on.

From booking software to office intelligence

A booking is a promise. Someone tells the system they intend to be at a desk from nine to five. Useful information, and probably the single most over-trusted number in workplace management, because it never records the cancelled meeting, the two o’clock departure, or the desk that was claimed out of habit and stood empty until Friday. Today the question is not whether people come in, but what the building actually does. How much space does an organisation genuinely need? Which floors carry the week? What does a three day policy really cost in square metres? And, increasingly: where did that number come from?

The occupancy figures travel further into an organisation than they used to. They end up in board papers, lease negotiations, ESG reports and finance reviews, in front of people whose job is to find the weak assumption. The data needs to be reliable & accurate. Only booking data is not. iotspot uses software & hardware to show reality. We combine three dynamic layers: 1 what people planned, 2 what people actually did, and 3 where in the building both of those happened. These three data dimensions are the foundations of iotspot today. And recently added: iotspot Insights. This is our state of the art analytics layer that connects it all. It reads the pattern, forecasts what demand does next, and answers all questions to manage office buildings and make informed decisions.

The future of the Smart Workplace

The future workplace will bring new topics on the table to comply with. Sustainability reporting is tightening. Indoor environmental quality is entering building regulation. And every workplace team will run into the limit we already discovered: booking data is not the right data. The organisations that will forecast well in 2030 are the ones building a clean, measured baseline now. iotspot has the insights, already measuring for years. The part of this anniversary we are most proud of. iotspot Smart Workplace: ten years of work, and the foundation for the next ten.
